Thomas and I look forward to the holiday season, spending time with friends and family and enjoying all the festivities this time of year brings. But so often we find ourselves pressured to get the decorating done too early and aren’t quite sure what to add. Especially since we are living in a small rental that isn’t quite large enough to fit past holiday decor meant for our new home. What we realized is that we don’t have to go all-out this year. By adding simple elements like a garland of evergreen, a colorful wreath and an arrangement of flickering lights, we can instantly transform our space into a warm, festive one filled with good cheer.
To create your own holiday style, start with what you already have. Pick-up colors and textures in a room with holiday decor like throws, pillows, fresh holiday flowers and old and new ornaments. Though I love the traditional red, white and green, don’t feel you have to limit yourself. A soft knit off-white tree skirt and matching stockings, soft gray or pink, muted blue and mint green look just as beautiful and feel just as festive. Adding hints of silver and gold (not too much) creates a glam touch without feeling too overdone. I love the idea of a woven basket tree collar as another type of tree skirt. The goal is to set a mood that feels happy and welcoming without too much stress or fuss. Below are some holiday decorating ideas to inspire you.
